Recast of Riom’s website
Digital success for citizens

How to transform an institutional site
The City of Riom (63) has taken up a major challenge: to transform a site complex and poorly adapted in a modern, simple platform and effective. This digital redesign by our web agency illustrates how
a user-centred approach can improve the experience of and municipal officials, while strengthening the online visibility.
Initial situation and challenges of the project of complete overhaul of the town hall site
- A labyrinth site : confused navigation, lack of consistency between pages.
- Complex internal management : administrators without suitable tools, lack of editorial uniformity.
- Missing sections : no agenda, scattered information.
- A very broad target : elected, municipal employees, but mostly administered of all ages and levels of digital mastery.
The main issue: creating an inclusive, accessible and useful site for all citizens.
Key: a proven web project framing methodology
- Scoping workshops : adoption of a methodology proven for better definition of needs and priorities.
- Involvement of people : micro-trotters, neighborhood meetings to gather expectations and better meet customer needs.
- Collaborative work : elected officials, agents and providers gathered for a common vision.
Outcome: A new design for a responsive and responsive website
- A simple and efficient site : fluid navigation, structured content, modern design.
- Addressing multiple needs : elected, municipal and administered officials find information quickly.
- Creation of new headings to expand target audiences, in particular around tourism, the cultural agenda and other emerging themes.
- Enhanced accessibility : a website adapted to all levels of web mastery.
“We used to have a very complicated site for both the recipients and contributors… The agenda was sorely lacking (…) For a city that has the URL of its site in its logo, we had to offer something else. This site was expected and the press also highlighted the recast this summer, encouraging other municipalities in the district to do the same!”Jean-Philippe LOUBIGNAC – Director of Communications and Events, City of Riom
Key indicators of achievement
- +45% attendance site in 6 months.
- Average sailing time reduced by 30% thanks to better ergonomics.
- Administered satisfaction rate (internal survey).
- Online agenda consulted daily by the inhabitants.
Conclusion
The complete redesign of the Riom website demonstrates that a user-centred approach, coupled with strong citizen involvement, can transform a digital tool into a real digital public service. This project illustrates the importance of listening, preparing and collaborating our customers with our web agency to achieve a successful digital transition.
